About The Summit
The 2026 Institute Summit marks the 6th year of the annual “Institute Retreat.” This year, we delve deeper into the nuances of collaboration across TGH’s verticals of care, moving beyond individual successes to consistent enterprise-level execution. Our theme, Align. Integrate. Execute., is inspired by the strategic challenge of Tetris: configuring unique shapes within a constrained space to create solid, ten-block-wide rows. Just as in Tetris, where gaps lead to an insurmountable stack, we aim to avoid silos and integrate our efforts to scale what works across the entire system.
This Summit focuses on systematizing institute successes, turning strong localized wins into enterprise-level capabilities. We will explore how to identify proven institute successes and apply them consistently enterprise-wide, making execution the key differentiator. Strategy is clear; the work is integrating and operationalizing it consistently. Ultimately, we believe that system leadership beats siloed excellence, and performance improves when leaders optimize for the system, not just their individual lane.
Keynote by Ryan Holiday

Few writers have done more to bring ancient, timeless wisdom and cutting-edge marketing strategies together than Ryan Holiday. His philosophically driven bestselling books have sold over 10 million copies and spent more than 200 weeks on bestseller lists. His books are taught in colleges and marketing programs around the world, including Trust Me I’m Lying, which revealed the massive vulnerabilities (and opportunities) in the global media system in 2012. He has directly influenced Super Bowl-winning teams like the New England Patriots, NBA Champions like the San Antonio Spurs, and Olympic Gold Medalists, as well as sitting Senators, military leaders and some of the biggest and most important companies in the world like Google, Twitter and Microsoft.
At the core of Ryan’s teachings is Stoicism, popularized through his New York Times bestselling books, including Right Thing, Right Now, The Obstacle Is the Way, Stillness Is the Key, Ego Is the Enemy, Discipline Is Destiny, and his latest book, Wisdom Takes Work.
What is Stoicism? The idea that while we don’t always control what happens to us in life, we always control how we respond. Illustrated vividly with stories from the greats of history, Ryan provides a framework for overcoming obstacles, scaling new challenges and battling both the ups and downs and life. Profiled by the New York Times, Sports Illustrated and ESPN, Ryan counts among his clients and followers some of the biggest names in business, tech, culture and professional athletics.
Ryan lives just outside of Austin Texas where writes in between running his bookstore The Painted Porch, raising two boys, and taking care of his donkeys.

“Over the past year, we’ve built strong momentum in positioning TGH-USF among the nation’s leading academic health systems. The institute model has been key, driving performance across the organization and strengthening both our specialty excellence and the quality of care we provide. Every day, through your work, we advance the academic health system's mission: providing highly specialized care for complex conditions, connecting patients to groundbreaking research and clinical trials, and educating the next generation of health care professionals. Strengthened by the institute model, our mission enables us to put leading-edge approaches into practice, expand collaboration through clinical trials and translational research, and move discoveries from the lab to the bedside. Your contributions are essential to TGH-USF health system and to our ability to innovate every day, and I am truly grateful.” -John Couris President and CEO Florida Health Sciences Center Tampa General Hospital |

“Over the past year, we have continued to build on the remarkable momentum of our institutes and service lines, a testament to the collective hard work, dedication and collaboration each of you brings every day. Guided by a clear strategic vision, we are developing innovative solutions that deliver advanced, evidence-based care for the most complex health conditions. Through strategic partnerships, targeted infrastructure investments and new models of care delivery, we are turning that vision into action by expanding our impact across Florida and bringing new services and capabilities to communities, including Hernando and Citrus counties. I am inspired by how we continue to work together with purpose, always keeping our patients at the center of everything we do.” - Stacey Brandt Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer Florida Health Sciences Center Tampa General Hospital |

“Our institute model continues to mature and grow in meaningful and remarkable ways at Tampa General. Thanks to our teams’ tireless work and collaboration over the past year, we currently feature 25 institutes and service lines – with several more in development – and we are seeing stronger collaboration than ever, not only among teams but across disciplines. Together, we are expanding the tertiary and quaternary capabilities that allow our academic medical center on Davis Islands to care for the rarest and most complex cases while strengthening the foundation of our TGH North hospitals so more patients can receive world-class, lower-acuity care closer to home. This balance allows our organization to focus on specific needs based on locations while ensuring access, efficiency and excellence across our entire system.” - Steven Chew, MHA, CPC Senior Vice President, Strategy & Service Lines Florida Health Sciences Center Tampa General Hospital |
